PLCS : Business Cases
Lascom has developed a PLCS portal exchange : PLCS Cube. This PLCS repository is a black box that can import, export and store data with all the constraints of standard PLCS. It is therefore an EAI (Enterprise Application Integration), an architecture that allows heterogeneous applications to manage their exchange. But unlike many existing EAI market, the benchmark PLCS loads a true business layer based on PLCS standard exchange.
Possible usage of the software
All data pass through the same system, the PLCS repository. As this PLCS repository aggregates and matches all exchanges, it permits to federate data on products breakdown. This repository contains a transverse view of information related to this product. The management of individual data remains the role of the different applications involved in the data sharing.
If we summarize what is stated above, the PLCS may meet three requirements:

Other possible usage
As the tool is an independent vault, it can also be use to cover the following needs:
- PLCS format validation tool
- Temporary/Intermediate Vault before data integration in the system
Considerations
The repository does not have extensive user interface or business functionalities as comparison of breakdowns, change processes, management lifecycle etc... This remains the role of the different applications involved in the data sharing.
Focus
PLCS Community
The aim is not to define the PLCS standard, as this is done by the OASIS Product Life Cycle Support (PLCS) TC
Our goals are the following:
- Offer an out of the box PLCS software,
- Develop and share common practices around the PLCS standard for industrial solutions
We hope that our community will develop simple and affordable tools that will deploy the PLCS standard.
As the PLCS Standard is vast, we expect to start with tools that comply with DEX D001 AD - Product Breakdown for support (Part 21 & Part28). By doing so we shall bring a straightforward answer to the main and most immediate request of the market.
Everyone is invited to join this effort, contribute or simply use PLCS Cube.
